Belonging
Working to Create a True Sense of Belonging for All
At MultiCare, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a healthy and fulfilling personal and professional life. Such a life demands access to care and work environments free from racism, injustice, discrimination and violence. We believe all patients are deserving of care that is high quality, safe, equitable, compassionate and culturally sensitive. And we are committed to building a diverse workforce, as a diverse workforce benefits both employees and patients by offering an inclusive place to provide and receive care.

Belonging Resource Groups (BRGs)
MultiCare’s Belonging Resource Groups (BRGs) provide positive spaces for employees to connect and champion belonging and workplace inclusivity by building community, friendship, professional development and networking through shared experiences, identities and common interests.
The groups may offer activities and community outreach such as cultural awareness events, book clubs, networking opportunities, personal and professional development seminars, lunch & learns, mentorship sessions, recruitment events and more.

- Culturally informed care series
- Interpreter services
- Sexual orientation, gender identity and pronouns data collection

Why Belonging?
Belonging is a fundamental human need: the feeling of being welcomed, accepted and supported as a member of a group. Belonging is valuing the talents, beliefs, backgrounds and diversity of our employees, patients and communities. It is our North Star; becoming a more equitable, diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging is the destination we strive for.

Patient and Community Programs
MultiCare has a long history of supporting the diverse communities we serve to help them overcome health disparities and work toward healthier futures. In addition to the numerous partnerships, we have cultivated over the years with like-minded organizations, we have developed programs of our own. Some of our most notable programs include:
MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare Camp
Each year, MultiCare welcomes more than 100 high school students to our summer MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare or M.A.S.H. Camp. Our goal is to encourage, inspire, and support students who are considering nursing or allied health professions, such as pharmacy, radiology, or physical therapy. We offer this program free of charge to students in order to remove barriers in our communities and in the health care industry. Active outreach to minority high school students helps us build interest among demographic groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in health care fields.

Center for Health Equity and Wellness
The MultiCare Center for Health Equity and Wellness strives to promote health equity, eliminate health disparities and improve the well-being of the Pacific Northwest through ongoing, data-driven initiatives and partnerships. Our community is diverse, and many of our patients face a variety of challenges that make living a healthy, thriving life difficult. The Center for Health Equity and Wellness was established to understand those unique obstacles and partner with our community to find solutions.
