Working to Create a True Sense of Belonging for All

At MultiCare, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to live a healthy life free from racism, injustice, discrimination and violence. We believe all patients are deserving of care that is high quality, safe, equitable, compassionate and culturally sensitive. And we are committed to building a diverse workforce, as a diverse workforce benefits both employees and patients by offering an inclusive place to provide and receive care.

Employee Programs

Racism and discrimination have no place in our health system. That’s true for our relationships with our patients and that’s true for our relationships with our colleagues. MultiCare has developed a number of education programs for our employees so they have the tools they need to care for all our patients in a compassionate and respectful manner. Those programs include:

The Belonging Program

As part of the discussions about equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging that our organization has been engaged in, we have begun developing a more comprehensive Belonging Program. This program will serve as an overall guide to our organization as we travel on our Belonging Journey, with a special focus on our employees.

Patient and Community Programs

MultiCare has a long history of supporting the diverse communities we serve to help them overcome health disparities and work toward healthier futures. In addition to the numerous partnerships, we have cultivated over the years with like-minded organizations, we have developed programs of our own. Some of our most notable programs include:

MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare Camp

Each year, MultiCare welcomes more than 100 high school students to our summer MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare or M.A.S.H. Camp. Our goal is to encourage, inspire, and support students who are considering nursing or allied health professions, such as pharmacy, radiology, or physical therapy. We offer this program free of charge to students in order to remove barriers in our communities and in the health care industry. Active outreach to minority high school students helps us build interest among demographic groups that have been traditionally underrepresented in health care fields.

Center for Health Equity and Wellness

MultiCare’s Center for Health Equity and Wellness was formed to promote health and wellness in the community and ensure that everyone has access to quality health care and a healthy life, regardless of factors such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion, and socioeconomic status. The Center provides community outreach education, performs community health needs assessments and creates and monitors MultiCare’s Health Equity Strategic Plan.
