Respiratory Therapy Internship Program
About the Program
MultiCare offers a one-year paid Respiratory Internship Program for eligible students in the Puget Sound area. This program provides hands-on experience managing equipment and supplies, along with opportunities for direct patient care. Qualifications
Qualifying students in a 2-year program, or accelerated vocational program, must meet the following criteria:
- First-year student entering second year of program in June 2023
- In good standing with the program currently enrolled
- Possess a current BLS card
Qualifying students in a 4-year program must meet the following criteria:
- Junior entering Senior year in Fall 2023
- In good standing with the program currently enrolled
- Possess a current BLS card
Program Details
- If offered a position in the Internship program, you will be employed as a per diem employee. This position is not eligible for benefits.
- Upon completion of the intern program and passing the NBRC RRT-Level exam, you will have the opportunity to apply for any open Respiratory Therapist position within MultiCare.
- The program is about 12 months:
- During this time, students will participate in the program up to 12hrs per day through various modalities:
- These hours can not be used to meet clinical hour requirements for a Respiratory Therapy Program. In-person class attendance with the Clinical Educator or Leadership team is expected at various dates and times throughout the year. This classroom time will be factored into your scheduled hours.
- In-person clinical training in a MultiCare acute care facility- you will receive additional information about the format of the program during the interview.
- Candidate will be responsible for scrubs and stethoscopes.
- Program/class hours will be up to 24hrs per week during the program. During this time, interns will practice the skills and competencies previously learned in the Respiratory Therapy program that they are currently enrolled in.
Program Education
The intended goal of this Internship Program is to help further your education in your chosen field and experience first-hand, the life of an RT at MultiCare Health System.
Throughout the program and with the guidance of a local area preceptor, you will have the opportunity to learn:
- Equipment position duties
- Basic floor processes
- Didactic sessions (i.e. basic assessment, code simulations, advanced assessments in specialty areas of interest)
- ICU equipment
- Specialty interests: Pulmonary Rehabilitation, PFTs, Treadmill, Pediatrics or Neonatal respiratory care
