About the Program

MultiCare offers an exciting Sterile Processing Technician Trainee Program for students currently enrolled in a Central Service Technician (CST) course of study program approved by MultiCare Health System. As a CST Trainee, you will apply the health concepts you’ve learned in your coursework to hands-on tasks in a healthcare setting, gaining valuable experience under the guidance of experienced Central Service Technicians. This paid training program provides the opportunity to earn a paycheck while completing your education and preparing for certification.

Program Highlights

  • Paid Training: Trainees are employed full-time by MultiCare and paid for the duration of the program. You’ll gain practical experience while earning a competitive wage.
  • Comprehensive 12-Week Program: The program consists of:
    • 2 weeks of classroom instruction (didactic), followed by
    • 10 weeks of combined classroom and clinical experience. During this time, you will split your schedule between learning in the classroom and gaining hands-on experience in the clinical environment. After completing the 12 weeks, you’ll enter an 8-week preceptor training phase, where you’ll further develop your skills under the mentorship of an experienced technician.
  • Certification & Career Path: Upon successful completion of the program and passing the certification exam, trainees will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent Central Service Technician position with MultiCare.
  • Full-Time Employee Benefits: As a program participant, you will be a benefit-eligible employee, with access to MultiCare’s employee benefits after the required waiting period.
  • Work Commitment: Participants will sign a one-year work agreement to remain with MultiCare as a certified Central Service Technician for at least one year following certification. This agreement ensures the success of your training and supports MultiCare’s investment in your professional development.

Key Responsibilities as a CST Trainee

  • Perform essential duties such as cleaning, sterilizing, and packaging medical instruments.
  • Maintain inventory of sterile supplies and transport equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with patient care providers and other healthcare staff to ensure a safe, sterile environment for patient care.
  • Apply academic learning to routine duties under the supervision of experienced Central Service Technicians.

Program Details

  • Duration: The program lasts 12 weeks, followed by 8 weeks of preceptor training.
  • Work Hours: Typical hours are 6:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • No Vacation Breaks: There are no scheduled vacation days during the 12-week training and 8-week preceptor training phases.
